The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Lloyd C. Campbell (ASN: RA-16350533), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date Private Campbell, as a gunner on a light machine gun, was giving covering fire to the advancing riflemen. As the attack progressed and enemy fire became more intense, he voluntarily moved his gun to a position directly under enemy observation and fire in order to better support the assault. He remained in this position inflicting numerous casualties until fatally wounded by artillery fire. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Private Campbell reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
