The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Donald E. Camp (ASN: RA-13344079), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 4 February 1951, near Tongsan-ni, Korea, Corporal Camp’s squad was on a patrol near the outskirts of a town when a hidden enemy machine gun raked the squad, killing one man and pinning down the remainder of the men. Corporal Camp, with complete disregard for his personal safety, rushed the enemy emplacement armed only with hand grenades and succeeded in neutralizing the position, killing the three enemy occupants. His fearless action enabled the patrol to proceed and complete its mission. Corporal Camp’s gallantry, courage, and complete devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and exemplify the high traditions of the military service.
