The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Alfred (Alford) C. Cameron (ASN: RA-15410672), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 10th Engineer Combat Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 28 November 1950, near Hagaru-ri, Korea, when this platoon was enveloped and attacked from the rear by a superior enemy force, Corporal Cameron was dispatched by his platoon leader with a message to the company commander. On leaving his foxhole Corporal Cameron was wounded in the neck; but, despite this painful wound, continued his mission, disregarding intense enemy fire. Upon his return with instructions from the company commander he collapsed from exhaustion and the effects of his wound. Corporal Cameron’s heroic action and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
