The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Jesus Alvarez Camacho (ASN: RA-10736995), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. In the early morning hours of 9 August 1952, Corporal Camacho, an automatic rifleman, was a member of a combat patrol of Company L which was assigned the mission of assaulting an enemy-held position in the vicinity of Kyeho-dong, Korea, to capture a prisoner for intelligence purposes. As the friendly elements neared their objective, they were subjected to deadly enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire, resulting in several friendly casualties. Immediately, Corporal Camacho subjected the enemy to such devastating and accurate fire from his automatic rifle that the friendly unit regained superiority in fire power. Realizing that some members of the patrol lay wounded and exposed to the fierce hostile fire, he ignored his personal safety as he braved the enemy fire to evacuate the wounded men to concealed positions. Although sustaining wounds while selflessly aiding the casualties, he continued to evacuate additional wounded men to the safety of a friendly outpost, disregarding enemy observance and fire, until he received mortal wounds. Corporal Camacho’s extreme gallantry, untiring devotion to duty, and selfless actions were highly responsible for saving the lives of many of his fellow soldiers and reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
