The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Calvert, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

During the early phases of Japanese occupation of the Philippine Islands, Lieutenant Colonel Calvert organized and trained a detachment of Philippine Scouts and led it in a bold offensive against the enemy on the Mountain Province, Luzon, Philippine Islands. Through his sound tactical judgment and inspiring leadership without regard for his own welfare, Lieutenant Colonel Calvert made a gallant contribution to the cause of freedom in the Philippine Islands.
