The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Wade L. Calhoun (ASN: 38394361), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Bougainville, Solomon Islands. On the night of 13 March 1944, with visibility good, Private First Class Calhoun and a comrade left the comparative safety of their pillbox and courageously crawled into both friendly and hostile fire to rescue their section leader as he lay helplessly wounded a few feet from the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Calhoun, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
