The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Peter Cabral (ASN: RA-30122310), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Waegwan, Korea, on 19 September 1950. Master Sergeant Cabral’s company was assaulting a hilltop objective which was essential in the taking of the town, the key to a breakthrough from the Pusan perimeter. Master Sergeant Cabral was in charge of a platoon whose mission was to give overhead fire to another company. Seeing the men of the other company bog down in the assault, he rushed forward and int intense enemy fire in an attempt to keep the assault moving. He took charge of a group of men in the stalled company and told them to follow him as he continued to move forward through the enemy fire. Although he was severely wounded his display of courage in completely exposing himself to the enemy’s fire was instrumental in keeping the attack moving and eventually taking the objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Master Sergeant Cabral, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
