The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Corporal Albino Caballero (ASN: RA-19365775), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date, during an attack upon an enemy-held hill, Sergeant Caballero’s unit was providing supporting fire for friendly units. Nearing their objective, the attacking forces called for hand grenades. Sergeant Caballero, a platoon leader, immediately volunteered for the task. Upon delivering the grenades, he remained with the forward elements instead of returning to his unit. Armed with grenades, Sergeant Caballero fearlessly assaulted the enemy forces, inflicting numerous casualties upon them and enabling friendly troops to advance. Undaunted by the intense enemy fire, Sergeant Caballero continued his action and though seriously wounded, refused medical treatment until the objective was secured. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Caballero on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
