The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Albino Caballero (ASN: RA-19365775), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 June 1951 in the vicinity of Inje, Korea. On that day Company C was attacking a well-entrenched enemy on Hill 451. Upon reaching the top of the hill the Platoon Sergeant of the second platoon was wounded and the platoon was driven back by an enemy counterattack. The Company Commander ordered the third platoon forward to assist in holding the hill. Corporal Caballero, a squad leader in the third platoon, moved forward throwing grenades and advancing into intense enemy automatic weapons and small arms fire. His platoon was inspired by his courage and followed him forward, succeeding in driving the enemy from the hill. A few minutes later while Corporal Caballero was placing his squad in position they were attacked on the left flank by an estimated 75 enemy. The platoon was forced to withdraw from its position, which was under fire from a hidden enemy machine gun. Corporal Caballero for a second time charged directly into the enemy, succeeding in holding them from the crest of the hill until a platoon from another company was able to reach firing positions to aid in stopping the enemy counterattack. Corporal Caballero’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
