The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant Alfred S. Burnett (ASN: 0-1286784), United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in Korea. On 25 July 1950, near Sangn-yong, Korea, a numerically superior enemy force launched an attack in the 27th Infantry Sector. During the ensuing battle which lasted for seven hours, Captain Burnett, despite the intense artillery and small arms fire, moved about his company position, deploying and directing his company in such a manner that he achieved maximum advantage over the enemy forces. Captain Burnett’s inspired leadership and heroic devotion to duty reflect the highest credit on himself and the military service.
