The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Larry Dee Brock (ASN: 0-5352876), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. First Lieutenant Brock distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 27 October 1969, while serving as a Platoon Leader with Company D, 1st Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during a reconnaissance in force mission in Dinh Doung Province, Republic of Vietnam. When another platoon became heavily engaged with a large enemy force, Lieutenant Brock exposed himself to the intense hostile fire as he led his platoon forward and positioned his men enabling them to place accurate suppressive fire on the enemy positions. With complete disregard for his own safety, he then assisted three seriously wounded personnel to a more secure position. Again organizing the defense and directing the evacuation of the wounded soldiers, Lieutenant Brock constantly exposed himself to the enemy fire. At this time Lieutenant Brock was mortally wounded. His gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
