The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Warrant Officer (WO-1) Dennis Dean Bogle, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Bogle distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 29 November 1969, while serving with the 11th General Support Aviation Company (Airmobile), 1st Cavalry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Bogle voluntarily accepted a mission to locate a large enemy element by using a highly technical, classified method and to guide combat elements into the area to engage and destroy the enemy. Locating the target, gunships were sent to assist him. With complete disregard for his own safety, Warrant Officer Bogle volunteered to make a low pass over the target in his unarmed helicopter to mark the exact location and insure the destruction of the enemy elements. While making the marking run, his aircraft was hit by hostile ground to air fire and crashed. Warrant Officer Bogle’s gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
