The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fourth Grade Humbert S. Betti, Jr. (ASN: 32159341), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 509th Military Police Battalion, on 24 November 1944, in Belgium. Technician Fourth Grade Betti, at great personal risk, made innumerable trips into a hospital wrecked by an enemy bomb. Despite intense smoke, flames and falling debris, he continued his efforts and safely evacuated three persons trapped within the wreckage. By his heroic actions, Technician Fourth Grade Betti saved the lives of three persons and set an example worthy of emulation.
