The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Kenneth A. Berry, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in New Georgia, Solomon Islands, on 24 July 1943. Upon being wounded by a grenade fragment, Corporal Berry went to the rear, had his wound dressed, and then fearlessly returned to the scene of action to aggressively lead his squad in close fighting with the enemy for an hour and a half. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
