The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Barber, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Henry Anson Barber, III (ASN: 0-25568), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Lieutenant Colonel Barber distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving with Advisory Team 33, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, as Senior Advisor to the 23d Division, Army of the Republic of Vietnam, in action against the enemy from 30 January to 5 February 1968. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Barber, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Henry Anson Barber, III (ASN: 0-25568), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea. On 17 August 1952, Company I was occupying defensive positions on an outpost known as “Nori” near Chuk-Kor-Ri, Korea. Major Barber, the battalion commander, realizing the need for strong defensive positions because of an expected enemy assault, left his position of safety in order to inspect the friendly emplacements. Departing from the main line of resistance, he proceeded through a mine field and crossed the hazardous rain-swollen Imjin River and continued over an area which was under enemy observation. In order to reach his destination, Major Barber fearlessly moved across an area which being subjected to an intense enemy artillery and mortar barrage. Completely oblivious to the deadly barrage, he undauntedly crossed the perilous fire-swept terrain until he had reached his objective. Major Barber then personally inspected the defensive positions, including the forward listening posts, and at the same time gave words of encouragement and helpful suggestions to the men. The outstanding gallantry and inspirational leadership displayed by Major Barber reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
