Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 1 (January 2, 1946)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Frank J. Yuncker (ASN: 36959670), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Seifer, Germany, on 19 March 1945. When his company’s position was subjected to an intense cannon, artillery, and machine gun barrage and casualties were sustained, Private Yuncker, although painfully wounded, courageously crossed the fire-swept area to the side of an injured comrade. He then skillfully administered first aid and fearlessly evacuated the victim to a place of safety. Private Yuncker’s gallant actions and outstanding devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
