The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Frank T. Baker, Jr. (ASN: RA-13274642), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 25th Reconnaissance Company, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 27 November 1950, north of Ipsok, Korea, Sergeant First Class Baker’s tank was stationed on a hill in the center of the company’s position during a strong hostile attack. When the supporting riflemen exhausted their ammunition and were forced to displace, he continued to hold the position despite intense, close proximity automatic weapons and mortar fire. Although virtually surrounded by hostile troops, he directed tank fire at point-blank range and held the hill until the reorganized riflemen forced the enemy to withdraw. Sergeant First Class Baker’s resolute leadership and selfless devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
