Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 160 (June 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Albert Gibbs Bagley (ASN: RA-36455437), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 6 April 1951, in the vicinity of Muranni, Korea. On that date he was a member of an infantry unit which had the mission of defending high ground in the vicinity of Muranni. Early in the morning the unit was subjected to mortar fire which wounded two men who were returning to their position. Corporal Bagley, upon hearing one of the wounded men call for a medic, immediately rushed from his covered position and went to the aid of the wounded. As he was attempting to drag one of the wounded men to safety, he was killed by a mortar round. His courageous action in attempting to save a comrade’s life was an inspiration to all who observed it. The gallant conduct of Corporal Bagley on this occasion reflected great credit upon him and upon the military service.
