The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class John R. Baggi (ASN: RA-16295506), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Near Chun-Bolgok, Korea, 24 October 1950, Private First Class Baggi’s convoy was suddenly attacked by enemy troops. Quickly dismounting from his vehicle despite a heavy barrage of small arms, automatic weapons and hand grenades, he secured a position on the road and covered his comrades’ displacement with accurate fire until he, himself, fell mortally wounded. P:one Baggi’s courage, determination and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
