(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) John D. Austin, United States Army, for gallantry in action during a dangerous mission, in action against the enemy in Korea in November 1950, Captain Austin made a solo mission into Communist-occupied North Korean territory. He volunteered to go from Anju int o the overrun area above Kunu-ri to get needed military information. His reconnaissance under fire provided the Corps with vital data on conditions of isolated units. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
