(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Armor) Keith Robert Garwick, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Persian Gulf. First Lieutenant Garwick distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Platoon leader in the 2d Battalion, 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment, in action against the enemy on 26 February 1991, in support of Operation DESERT STORM in 1991. As pat of the allied offensive thrust to cut off the line of retreat of the Republican Guard in Iraq, First Lieutenant Garwick’s six Bradly Fighting Vehicles, along with about twenty other U.S. armored vehicles, stopped a brigade of 250 Republican Guard vehicles on a desolate ridge near the Kuwait border. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Garwick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
