Lieutenant Colonel Ashworth led a battalion in the capture of the estate of Franz Von Papen, who had been expelled from the United States in 1915, and was a master spy and former chancellor of the German Republic, and Vice Chancellor under Adolph Hitler. This action led to the capture of Von Papen and his son the following day. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Ashworth, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
