The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Master Sergeant Alexander D. Arick (ASN: RA-19315320), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 and 14 August 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, Korea. At that time Sergeant Arick was Platoon Sergeant of the 2d Platoon during an attack on vital enemy held emplacements. Sergeant Arick, with utter disregard for personal safety, organized his platoon and led the first wave of the attack up the hill toward the enemy bunkers and communication trenches. Hostile artillery and heavy mortar concentrations hindered the advance, making it extremely hazardous for all concerned. Once again, he reorganized his men and continued the assault on the hill. During this attack, he was hit by enemy small arms fire, and shortly afterward, died from these wounds. Sergeant Arick’s gallantry in action above and beyond the call of duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
