Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 877 (December 27, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Carlo Antich (ASN: US-51061953), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 October 1951 in the vicinity of Sanggon bae, Korea. On that date Company E launched an assault on a hill defended by a numerically superior enemy force determined to repulse the attack and hold their positions at any cost. The assaulting units were desperately attempting to advance up the hill but were repeatedly repelled by the intense hail of fire from the well-fortified hostile positions. Sergeant Antich, realizing the importance of the mission, voluntarily assumed command of a small group of riflemen and reorganized them for another assault on the objective. With complete disregard for his own safety, he led his men up the barren slope of the hill exposing himself to direct their fire and inspiring them by his own heroism. On one occasion he exposed himself to almost certain death to get with in grenade range of an enemy bunker and destroy it. His never ceasing rifle fire accounted for many enemy casualties and his heroic leadership inspired his men to greater heights of daring and aided immeasurably in the successful completion of the mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Antich reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
