The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fifth Grade Paul C. Anthony (ASN: 35867480), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with Battery A, 120th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion (Mobile), in France. On 1 March 1945, Technician Anthony displayed conspicuous heroism in rescuing a drowning soldier from a deep reservoir. Completely disregarding his own safety he fearlessly dove into the water where he knew there was tangled wire beneath the surface and succeeded in saving the soldier’s life. His courage and unselfish devotion to duty exemplify the finest traditions of military service.
