The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Allan G. Anderson (ASN: ER-57500032), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 29 January 1951, near Chipyong-ni, Korea. Private Anderson was a member of a motorized patrol which, ambushed and subjected to intense fire from three sides, was compelled to abandon vehicles and form a perimeter defense on high ground. The patrol was under repeated and fierce enemy attacks for a period of fourteen hours. During this time Private Anderson volunteered twice to break through the hostile lines to secure desperately needed help. His first attempt was unsuccessful. On his second attempt to infiltrate the enemy lines, he was discovered by the enemy and engaged them in hand-to-hand combat until he was killed. The gallantry displayed by Private Anderson reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
