Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 829 (December 7, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Adam Anderson (ASN: US-52059868), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 17 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date while assaulting hostile positions, Company C was running critically low on supplies and ammunition. Sergeant Anderson, a cook, volunteered to guide a Korean carrying party to re-supply his unit with the essential items. As the party neared the friendly lines, hostile mortar and small arms fire killed several of its members. Realizing that the company was in dire need of batteries for its radio, Sergeant Anderson crawled through the enemy fire to retrieve the precious items from the fallen carrier. Continuing the mission, he successfully reached the friendly troops with the supplies and enabled the commanding officer to coordinate his unit with other friendly elements. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Anderson on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
