The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Clement Anthony Ambrose (ASN: ER-16242302), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 15 December 1950, near Chunjung-ni, Korea, the 3d Platoon of B Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, in attempting a withdrawal to the company perimeter, found its route of withdrawal under fire by an enemy heavy machine gun and intense small arms fire from the opposite ridge. Private Ambrose, a member of a rifle squad serving as flanking guard for the platoon withdrawal, realized the grave danger of possible heavy casualties. He left his position of comparative safety and climbed about fifty yards up a steep slope, raked by heavy small arms fire, threw a hand grenade, destroying the enemy machine gun and killing two of the enemy. Private Ambrose’s courage under fire and utter disregard for his own personal safety saved his platoon many casualties and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
