The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Frank A. Corbin, Jr. (ASN: 38578164), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations on 5 February 1945. Private Corbin, an automatic rifleman, raced 75 yards under heavy fire to a railroad signal tower where he fired upon enemy troops and halted their advance. From an exposed position he silenced two enemy machine guns before he was killed by a German sniper. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
