The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Dwain Keith Alt (ASN: US-52020800), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandae-ri, Korea. On that date, during an attack on an enemy-held hill, Private Alt’s unit was halted by intense hostile fire. With ammunition running low, Private Alt, realizing the seriousness of the situation, made his way forward to the enemy’s position, inflicting numerous enemy casualties. Private Alt, upon observing an enemy sniper, made his way through enemy fire to a position where he could deliver accurate fire upon the sniper. During this advance he was fatally wounded by a burst of automatic weapons fire. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Alt reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
