Headquarters, 24th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 211 (February 18, 1951)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Imo F. Alo (ASN: RA-10101142), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Chorwon, Korea, on 9 December 1950. Private First Class Alo was a member of a patrol advancing deep into enemy-held territory to contact he enemy or enter the town. When the patrol encountered an enemy roadblock and was subjected to heavy enemy mortar and small arms fire, all members of the patrol were ordered to dismount, take cover, and return fire. Private First Class Alo, seeing a machine gun mounted on one of the vehicles as not being used, ran through intense enemy fire to man the gun. Under continuing fire he made several attempts to fire the weapon before discovering it had been damaged by enemy fire and would not operate. He then returned to the patrol’s position in the roadside ditch. Seeing that a member of the patrol had been wounded, he immediately asked another man to accompany him in rescuing the wounded man. Reaching the wounded man he administered first aid and carried him to a position of relative safety. When the patrol was ordered to withdraw Private First Class Alo voluntarily climbed upon a three-quarter ton truck which had been hit by enemy fire and attempted to start he vehicle and turn it round. He continued his attempt while the other patrol vehicle turned around and began to withdraw. Only after the enemy made many hits on the vehicle did he dismount and leave to join the departing patrol. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Alo, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
