The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Jack P. Allison (ASN: RA-17249949), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Aidman with Headquarters, 24th Infantry Division, then attached to the 24th Reconnaissance Company, in action against the enemy near Sunam-songju, Korea, on 22 September 1950. the enemy had counterattacked a battalion of friendly troops forcing them to withdraw to a river bed in front of the company’s position. Enemy fire from the high ground was cutting down the withdrawing troops as they tried to reach a place of safety. With complete disregard for personal safety he went forward over open ground to the fire-swept position and despite the fact that machine gun fire killed a fellow medical aidman, he treated and aided in evacuating approximately forty of the wounded to a place of safety where they could later be evacuated. Sergeant Allison’s courageous action and complete devotion to his comrades reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army Medical Service.
