The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Paul Theodore Allen (ASN: RA-16286696), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 55th Quartermaster Depot, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 August 1950, in the vicinity of Pusan, Korea. On that date, his platoon was spearheading the attack of an infantry regiment. When the gunner of his armored car was wounded, Private Allen moved into position and directed antitank and machine gun fire on the enemy until he was forced to abandon the vehicle. Although seriously wounded, he continued firing on the enemy from a dismounted position until he was mortally wounded by enemy machine gun fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
