Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 860 (December 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Leslie T. Allen (ASN: RA-18285082), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 October 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date Private Allen, a rifleman, was with a unit which was defending its position against the determined attacks of an overwhelming enemy force. Although his emplacement was in the direct path of the onrushing foe he tenaciously maintained his position and delivered accurate and effective fire on the enemy. In the course of this action he was painfully wounded, but realizing that his unit critically needed every man, Private Allen refused to be evacuated. With complete disregard for his own safety he remained in his position, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy, until friendly reinforcements arrived. His selfless devotion to duty and courageous efforts were an inspiration to all who observed him and were highly responsible for the success of his unit in this engagement. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Allen on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
