    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Jackson Allen (ASN: ER-13295088), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, gallantry in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Kabangsa-ni, Korea. On this day Company A had the mission of securing a vital hill occupied by the enemy. As the attack materialized the leading elements were halted by intense enemy hand grenades, a few yards from their objective. Sergeant Allen, platoon sergeant, encouraging his men forward, advanced to the top of the hill and from this exposed position, threw hand grenades upon the amazed and startled enemy. The action so inspired his men that they were able to hold the objective while reinforcements moved forward and set up a defensive line. Sergeant Allen’s courageous action and outstanding leadership were directly responsible for the success of the mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Allen reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant First Class Jackson Allen (ASN: ER-13295088), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 June 1951 in the vicinity of Inje, Korea. On that day Company A was attacking a well-entrenched force on Hill 451. When the platoon reached the top of the hill they were met by a fanatical counterattack by the enemy forcing one of the lead squads to fall back. Sergeant Allen at once, with words of encouragement to the already tired men of his squad, moved them into action and succeeded in stemming the enemy attack. During this time he was continually exposed to small arms fire and grenades, but he did not let them deter him from the task of deploying his men so as to hold the line. Sergeant Allen’s devotion to duty, leadership and courage reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Maryland.
