Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 89 (April 5, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Robert J. Allee (ASN: 0-2028539), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On the night of 25 November 1952, a platoon of Company I, 3d Battalion, of which Lieutenant Allee was platoon leader, was assigned the mission of defending a friendly position in the vicinity of Hak Tong-Ni, Korea. When hostile forces encircled elements and cut them off from the remainder of their company, Lieutenant Allee met the onrushing foe firing his weapon with deadly accuracy. Upon exhausting his ammunition, he utilized the discarded weapons of wounded fellow soldiers. His accurate fire enabled his men to break through the rear of the encirclement and evacuate the wounded. Only after the friendly elements reached positions of safety did he rejoin his men. Lieutenant Allee then led his platoon in an assault against the hostile forces, inflicting numerous casualties and regaining the friendly position. Lieutenant Allee’s outstanding gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
