Headquarters, EIGHTH U.S. Army, Korea, General Orders No. 495 (July 3, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Infantry), [then Captain] Robert F. Aline (ASN: 0-2046634), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 16 September 1950, he was Commanding Company L during an attack against well-entrenched enemy forces along the Naktong River, near Changnyong. When the friendly troops came under intense enemy mortar, artillery, and small arms fire and were pinned down, Major Aline, exposing himself to the enemy, moved among his men encouraging them and directing return fire. After the order to advancer was received, Major Aline fearlessly led his company in an attack on the hostile positions and personally killed ten of the enemy, destroyed one machine gun, and knocked out one anti-tank weapon. The gallant actions of Major Aline contributed greatly to the successful accomplishment of the mission and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
