The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Field Artillery), [then Brigadier General] Clyde Charles Alexander (ASN: 0-5974), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Acting Chief of Staff and later as Chief of Staff, Services of Supply South-West Pacific Area, from July 1942 to November 1944.
