The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Carlo L. Albi (ASN: US-56090069), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandae-ri, Korea. On this date, during an attack on a heavily fortified enemy-held hill, the unit was subjected to intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire. During the ensuing action when both the machine gunner and his assistant were wounded and evacuated, Private Albi, an ammunition bearer, operated the weapon. In spite of the intense enemy fire, Private Albi, with complete disregard for his own safety, remained in his position to give supporting fire to the advancing riflemen. While inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy, Private Albi was fatally wounded by enemy mortar fire. The gallantry in action and self-sacrificing devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Albi reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
