The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Daniel Alarcon (ASN: RA-18355738), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 18 August 1950, Private First Class Alarcon was carrying ammunition to a machine gun which was supporting a platoon attack on a key hill near Haman, Korea. Although he was constantly exposed to severe hostile small arms and machine gun fire he continued his mission undaunted. He was finally killed on 19 August while carrying further supplies to the gun emplacements. Private First Class Alarcon’s gallant and indomitable devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
