Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 50 (June 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Marvin L. Adams (ASN: 0-60612), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company M, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 November 1950 near Kujang-dong, Korea. On that date the 81-mm. mortar platoon commanded by Lieutenant Adams was in danger of being overrun by a large enemy force. He organized all members of the platoon, except the crews of two of the guns, and deployed them on high ground to protect the position with rifle fire. When the two mortars had miss-fires, he ordered the crews to join the defensive forces on the high ground. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he remained in the position and dire the only mortar remaining in operation. He cut the range to within two hundred yards of the position, and continued to fire until all ammunition was expended and he was forced to withdraw. The gallant and inspiring actions of Lieutenant Adams on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
