Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 34 (January 22, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Marion Adams (ASN: US-56094193), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 15 September 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date Sergeant Adams was with a unit which was in defensive positions undergoing intense hostile artillery and mortar fire. During this phase, one of his comrades was seriously wounded and lay exposed to the enemy fire. Observing this, Sergeant Adams, in the face of certain death and unmindful of the risk involved, voluntarily left the protection of his emplacement and advanced through the fire-swept area to the side of the wounded man. Although under direct enemy observation and fire, he fearlessly administered aid and carried him over the hazardous terrain to a site of comparative safety. His selfless devotion to a wounded comrade and valiant conduct were an inspiration to all who observed him. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Adams on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
