Action Date:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edward Bray Scullion (ASN: 0-1290144), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, on 8 February 1945, in the vicinity of Sarreguemines, France. Captain Scullion planned, directed and assisted, under enemy mortar fire, in rescuing thirty-two men from the far side of a swollen river. Disregarding his own personal safety, he entered the swift current of the river to rescue one member of the patrol from drowning. His outstanding gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
