(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Silver Star to Sergeant Willis B. Nesmith (ASN: 7080182), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations during 1943 and 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

NeSmith (ASN: 7080182), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from March to August 1943. Sergeant NeSmith exposed himself to heavy enemy fire and directed the effective firing of his tank destroyer. When his ammunition was expended, Sergeant NeSmith remained at his post until his vehicle was destroyed. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
