The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edwin Walker Wilson (ASN: 33909268), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 17 April 1945. When Private Wilson’s company was pinned down by enemy fire while moving through an enemy town, they immediately called for a tank. As the tank moved forward, Private Wilson and his comrades observed an enemy rocket launcher team preparing to knock it out from a nearby cellar. They quickly moved to the rear of the building in which the enemy was concealed and opened fire. As the enemy rushed from the cellar to escape, Private Wilson and his comrades killed them with grenades. Private Wilson’s alertness and unhesitating action enabled the tank to knock out the enemy position. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Wilson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
