The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Aubrey B. Stacy, United States Army, for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force. First Lieutenant Stacy distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 15 June 1967 while serving as a Platoon Leader with Company A, 4th Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, on an ambush patrol in the Filhol Plantation near Cu Chi, Republic of Vietnam. First Lieutenant Stacy was leading his patrol through a heavily vegetated area when they suddenly encountered intense enemy automatic weapons and rifle grenade fire, wounding him and four other men. Disregarding his own wounds, First Lieutenant Stacy immediately organized his men into an assault line and directed their fire onto the enemy positions. He then formed his patrol into a defensive perimeter, aided the other casualties, and checked for ammunition shortages. As the Viet Cong attempted to crawl within hand grenade range, First Lieutenant Stacy directed the patrol’s fire and personally threw hand grenades into the areas of enemy penetration. Due to a shortage of ammunition he prepared to break contact with the Viet Cong force and began maneuvering his men around the hostile positions. Assuming the point position, First Lieutenant Stacy led his patrol successfully through a booby trapped area to a secure position. Due to First Lieutenant Stacy’s valorous actions his unit was able to locate the Viet Cong force and then successfully break contact, alerting other friendly units of the enemy’s presence. First Lieutenant Stacy’s personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
