The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Aubrey Bruce Stacy (ASN: OF-109797), United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force. Captain Stacy distinguished himself by heroic actions on 4 September 1969, while serving as Company Commander of Company A, 2d Battalion, 22d Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. While on a sweep operation, elements of Company A came in contact with a large enemy force. During the initial engagement, several casualties were sustained. Immediately, Captain Stacy advanced through the bullet swept area and directed his men’s fire on the aggressors. After evacuating several wounded men to the rear, Captain Stacy spotted one of his injured men who was pinned down in the kill zone. With complete disregard for his own safety, Captain Stacy exposed himself to the hostile fire as he moved to the aid of the man. Although seriously wounded during the rescue, Captain Stacy succeeded in evacuating the man to a safe area. His valorous actions were responsible for saving a man’s life. Captain Stacy’s bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
