Henry Shelton attended North Carolina State University where he was a member of Pershing Rifles and earned an ROTC Commission. He served two tours of combat duty as a Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Vietnam. General Shelton served as the 14th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 1, 1997 through September 30, 2001. He retired as a U.S. Army General.
