The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Richard W. Rosebury, Jr. (ASN: 0-1307753), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Raider Platoon, Headquarters Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division. On 16 March 1945, at 1400 hours, First Lieutenant Rosebury and one of his men dashed 50 yards to capture an enemy machine gun and its crew of three. First Lieutenant Rosebury and his man then observed two enemy SP guns 400 yards away and directed tank fire that knocked out the guns and greatly aided the regiment’s advance through the Siegfried Line. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
