Charles Palmer graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1924. He retired in 1962 as a U.S. Army 4-Star General. His brother, Williston B. Palmer, was also a four-star general, and his grandfather, William Edward Birkhimer, was a general and Medal of Honor recipient.
